Characteristics Analysis of Web Traffic with Hurst Index

چکیده
Today’s computer networks are highly dynamic to change especially Internet. Simulating Internet behavior is therefore a difficult and cumbersome task. The web remains the largest application class on wide-area links. Generation of natural web traffic behavior is an essential component for simulation models. Failure of Poisson and Markov models has led to development of new models. In the past decade selfsimilarity has been proved to be an important feature in the network traffic. Hurst index is used to test for self-similarity of a process. Recently, PackMime has been introduced to NS-2 for HTTP traffic generation. In this paper statistical analysis method has been used to estimate the Hurst index. Simulations have been carried out using PackMimeHTTP. The results obtained are tested for self-similarity by finding the H index from the slope of the least-squares fitting line of the variance-time plot.

Time-Domain Analysis of Web Cache Filter Effects (Extended Version)
This paper uses trace-driven simulation to study the traffic arrival process for Web workloads in a simple Web proxy caching hierarchy. Both empirical and synthetic Web proxy workloads are used in the study. The simulation results show that a Web cache reduces both the peak and the mean request arrival rate for Web traffic workloads, while the variance-to-mean ratio of the filtered traffic typi...
متن کاملInvestigating Multi-Fractality of Network Traffic Using Local Hurst Function
Long-range dependence (LRD) and self-similarity (SS) are two basic properties of network traffic time series. Fractional Brownian motion (fBm) and its increment process fractional Gaussian noise (fGn) are commonly used to model traffic with the Hurst index H that determines both the regularity of the sample paths and the long memory property of traffic. However, it appears too restrictive for t...
متن کاملAn Approach to Dynamic Asymptotic Estimation for Hurst Index of Network Traffic
As an important parameter to describe the sudden nature of network traffic, Hurst index typically conducts behaviors of both self-similarity and long-range dependence. With the evolution of network traffic over time, more and more data are generated. Hurst index estimation value changes with it, which is strictly consistent with the asymptotic property of long-range dependence. This paper prese...
متن کاملSearching for Self-Similarity in GPRS
Based on measurements in live GPRS networks, the degree of selfsimilarity for the aggregated WAP and WEB traffic is investigated by utilizing six well established Hurst parameter estimators. We show that in particular WAP traffic is long-range dependent and its scaling for time scales below the average page duration is not second order self similar. WAP over UDP can also determine the overall t...
متن کاملA High Speed Traffic Source for Web Traffic Simulation
Discrete packet level simulation of optical networks poses a significant challenge in that the number of events involved in the process are so large that the simulation times become unacceptably long. Given that 85%-90% of Internet traffic is based on TCP and that the protocol’s performance is a function of Round Trip Time (RTT) and the congestion in the network, it is necessary to include TCP ...
